Text & Links

16 min readยทHTML Fundamentals

Lesson objective

Give your pages meaning and navigation.

Learn how HTML text elements organize content and how links connect users to other pages, resources, and sections of the same document.

HTML gives structure to the content users see on a webpage. Before adding visual styling, we need to tell the browser what each piece of content actually represents.

Headings create hierarchy

Headings communicate the structure of your page. Use h1 for the main page heading and lower-level headings for supporting sections.

HTML
<h1>My Portfolio</h1>

<h2>Projects</h2>

<p>I build modern web applications.</p>

Links connect the web

The anchor element creates a link. Its href attribute tells the browser where the user should go.

HTML
<a href="https://example.com">
  Visit Example
</a>

Key idea

HTML is about meaning and structure. CSS will later control how that structure looks. Always write semantic markup first.
